Are you also looking forward to that spring sun? Before you know it, it's time for the new motorcycle season! Open that garage door and pull down the canvas - it's time to wake your beloved motorcycle from hibernation. Starting at the beginning, cleaning and polishing, then enjoying new routes or a trip to the circuit. The following tips include the perfect preparation for the start of the new season.
TIP 1: REMOVE PROTECTIVE LAYER AND CHECK TIRES
Did you clean your motorcycle prior to winter storage? Then, with a dry, soft cloth, remove any protective layer that may have remained after applying Motul E.Z. before winter. Lube on metal or chrome parts. Then check the profile and the pressure of the tires. Adjust the air pressure if necessary. Check the manual of your motorcycle for this.
TIP 2: CHECK IF THE MECHANISMS STILL WORK PROPERLY
Check all mechanical parts and their proper functioning: throttle lever, clutch lever, gears and brakes. Connect a charged and previously checked battery. Check the lights: high beam and low beam, tail light and brake light. Also check that the turn signals and the horn are functioning properly.
TIP 3: CHAIN CHECK
Does the chain need to be lubricated? After winter storage, it can happen, depending on the storage, that the chain has become somewhat dry. Normally you clean the chain before winter storage to prevent corrosion, so now you only have to grease it with a Motul Chain Lube. Is the chain not clean? Always make sure that you clean the chain with, for example, the C1 Motul Chain Clean before you lubricate the chain again.
For normal road use, the C2 Motul Chain Lube Road or the C2+ Motul Chain Lube Road with Teflon is the ideal choice. At Motul we also have the C5 Motul Chain Paste with an integrated brush on the tube. This takes a little more time, but with the brush you ensure an even layer of the product is applied to the chain, so that the lubricant is well distributed. Make sure all links are well lubricated. Should the spray get on the wheel, it can be easily removed with a soft cloth and Motul Chain Clean.
TIP 4: ELECTRONICS AND LIQUIDS
Turn on the ignition. If the battery was previously completely disconnected, the engine management system and other electronic components must be restarted and calibrated when the ignition is first switched on. Check that all fluids (engine oil, transmission oil, coolant, brake fluid) are topped up to the correct level.
TIP 5: CHECKS AND TEST DRIVE
Check the fluid circuits for leaks - pay particular attention to the oil drain plug, brake fluid reservoir, radiator, caliper bleed screws, and front and rear shock absorber seals. Start the engine and let it idle. Check whether the oil pressure light has gone out. Take a short ride with the motorcycle and pay close attention to the suspension and damping. On a motorcycle with ABS, the light should go out as soon as the engine is started.
TIP 6: PROVIDE PLACTIC PARTS
E10 Motul Shine & Go refreshes metal, plastic and rubber parts after washing. Spray from a distance of about 20 centimeters and then clean the surface with a soft cloth. Motul Shine & Go forms a protective film that prevents dirt from sticking. It makes it much easier to remove insects and thus better protect the paintwork. It also keeps the rubber parts elastic.
TIP 7: FUEL SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
Water vapor condenses in the fuel system due to the changing air temperature. If water enters the tank, the fuel quality deteriorates and corrosion or even bacterial growth can occur in the tank. In the least problematic cases, this leads to starting problems and reduced performance, but can even lead to engine damage. You will also often notice a lower torque and poor throttle response (especially with single and two-cylinder engines).
Add Motul Boost & Clean Moto to the fuel at least twice (the more often the better) per season (we also have this for scooters in a smaller package). The product cleans the entire fuel system, stabilizes the fuel, removes water/condensation from the tank, lubricates and protects against corrosion and wear. In short, it extends the life of your engine block and fuel system, and ensures an efficient running engine, which in turn results in less consumption. This important action is therefore also very good for your wallet!
TIP 8: ENSURE GOOD VISIBILITY!
Use Motul Helmet & Visor Clean to quickly and effectively remove dust, insects and other dirt from the surface of the helmet and visor. Moisten the surface from a distance of 20-30 cm, let the product soak in for a while and then wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth. Isn't your helmet dirty? The product also prevents the insects from attaching strongly again. Motul Helmet Interior Clean is designed to thoroughly clean the inside of the helmet. It disinfects and removes odors. It has been dermatologically tested and does not irritate the skin.
